As a small child, Jodie Holmes became a government lab rat due to her strange psychic powers caused by her link to an incorporeal psychic entity known as Aiden. Scientist Nathan Dawkins was chosen as her handler and tasked to study her, raise her and prepare her to join the Psy Ops military division as soon as she's of age. Having no friends, and being bullied and accused of witchcraft by every kid she ever tried to become friends with, Jodie grew attached to Nathan and became his surrogate daughter. Eventually, she joined the military only to become their pawn forced to commit criminal acts abroad for the supposed greater good. She also discovered that, since she can also channel the dead, the military will eventually probably force her to use all her powers to open a rift to the afterlife dimension, even though this could literally unleash Hell on Earth. Realizing that she will never be free, Jodie decides to run away like many times before. However, wherever she goes, the military, the demons and the spirits follow, and wreak havoc. The game plays as a non-linear third person adventure game and allows the players to choose which or how severe actions Jodie will take in certain dangerous or normal situations. The game has several endings dependent on some of the choices that decide the fate of both Jodie and several side-characters she befriends throughout the game.
Live the life of Jodie Holmes, a young woman who possesses supernatural powers through her psychic link to a mysterious invisible entity.
The creaters of this game have done a outstanding job! I love the characters, the story, the plot and everything. It's sometimes sad and makes you fell sorry of them. It's a type of game that makes you don't want it to end. The graphics are well doned. The actors did a great job. It makes you care about the actors. The game gives me the forrest gump feeling where it says stuff happened in the past, in this game its similar, the chapters jump to parts. if this game was so suceessful, why not make a film of it?. I do hope the game released a PC platform and Xbox platform. Its pretty much all I have to say.

its worth it 10/10
This is clearly a love it or hate it game. I personally think that while this game is not awful this has a lot of problems and would much sooner recommend the superior Heavy Rain to anyone trying out an interactive movie experience that isn't Telltale games or the full-motion video from the 90's where only about 5 of them were any good. So when I picked this up I thought "Okay, these guys made Heavy Rain, which I enjoyed so what could be the problem with this one with big name actors?"… If you didn't like Heavy Rain then let me assure you, Beyond Two Souls is WAY worse.

Before I explain the plot I want to tell you guys this so you can see where I'm coming from in not liking the game. Heavy Rain was a story where I could get behind because I was quickly told what was going on, I was introduced to the characters and quickly drew to care about them (except Madison), their goal of trying to find The Origami killer and why was engrossing and although the game-play was simplistic the story in most ways they presented it was done well. Why does this matter? Well you'll see.

The plot is basically the entire life of Jodie Holmes as she is tethered from birth to an entity called Aiden that manages to give her powers and abilities. With this she is experimented on and released to work for the CIA and then goes on the run from them and along the way through all of this she must find out who she is and how to continue living no matter how hard things get for her.

Well the plot works in theory. But the way it presented itself is the game's complete undoing. If you have a bad way of telling the story in an interactive movie, the whole game falls apart. Basically the plot is non-linear to the extent that you have no idea of what point in Jodie's life you'll be when you completed the level, how she got there (and later in the game what happened before and after) and the part that kills me is that there is no reason for it. Literally you can make it run in a linear fashion and the game wouldn't disconnect me from the story every single time I reach the next level and if that was the case maybe I could have cared more about the plot and characters.

So aside from problems in the all over the place nature of the plot, what else is there to get angry at?… Well, the developments as to what happens towards the end of the time-line is… how do I put this? STUPID! So Jodie goes back into the CIA promising a complete clean of the records, of hundreds of millions of dollars wasted in trying to catch her and the multiple losses of human life would be swept under the rug so easily! Then she accepts and does the mission but when she comes back Willem Dafoe is the villain because of a last minute motivation rail-roaded into the plot of the game which in Heavy Rain kind of made sense because it's a murder mystery and the situation that happened happened when the villain was a child and could colour the rest of his life. Okay, the villain motivation is that Dafoe had his family die in a car crash 20 odd years ago and he seemed fine in other chapters until this point where he just ends up being a psychopath wanting to break the barrier between life and death.

I would get this if it happened a couple of weeks beforehand or something like that but after it has happened for over a decade, I get that he'd still be grieving but I think it would be to a point where it would go beyond basically tearing down the walls so he could live with them and be happy. I mean I think if he's a scientist that has access to CIA resources then wouldn't he see a psychiatrist to try and help his loss? I really hope I am not the only one who sees in how many ways Willem Dafoe's character doing this is dumb. The game would have reached a fitting conclusion if it ended with Jodie plowing through the CIA that kidnapped her after (shock, gasp) the government lied about her being wiped clean.

Okay, I'll quickly say what I like about this game. Well, even considering I have to make sense of what's going on in every level I liked the acting, the story works, it just didn't need a linear structure to it and the control scheme of Heavy Rain has been updated in this so that there isn't any fixed camera angles, nor holding L2 every time you moved and in some of the longer levels (such as the one where Jodie's homeless) there are a few scenes where it actually almost succeeds in being dramatic.

So, I would suggest playing another interactive movie instead of this, I wouldn't let the big name stars fool you into buying this because with lesser known actors, Quantic Dream managed to pull off a FAR more satisfying experience with Heavy Rain. I haven't played any other interactive movies but as far as this goes? I would suggest playing something else I really would.

A final fight has been altered in a way that a scientist's neck can't be pounded with a pole. Furthermore, the camera pans away twice during a torture scene.
